Near the southern tip of the African continent lies a country of wide horizons, clear, unpolluted skies and compelling beauty, Namibia, widely regarded as Africa's Gem. It is 1914, and Lucky (voiced by Lukas Haas) is a foal born aboard a German supply ship transporting his mother and other workhorses to a mining town in Africa. Torn from his mother's side shortly after arrival, Lucky is left to fend for himself in a hostile, intemperate environment. Not long into his journey, Lucky is adopted by Richard (Chase Moore), an orphaned stable boy. However, when the townspeople must flee due to encroaching war, Lucky is left abandoned by his young caretaker. With no alternative but to venture into the untamed desert, Lucky befriends other wildlife, as well as a young Bushman girl, who teach him how to survive.
