Laura Roslin (Mary McDonnell), thwarted in her efforts to steal the election from a man she suspects is somehow in collusion with the Cylons, loses her presidency to Giaus Baltar (James Callis), who promised safe refuge from the Cylons by settling on the recently discovered habitable planet called New Caprica.
